Summer is over, fall is imminent and for some, major holidays already came and went. We have lived with a light wardrobe and spent more time outside than inside for the last 3 months, so it is no surprise that your house feels and looks neglected. Now is the time to focus on the indoors while there is a little breather before the rest of the season comes swooping down on us.
At this time of the year I get ruthless and start purging: I cherish clean windows, uncluttered cabinets, and in general a sense of airy spaciousness before the holidays close in on us.
But fall is more than getting organized. It is also the time when I exchange pillows and maybe paint a wall or two. Carpets get sent out to be cleaned and a lamp shade replaced. In the process of going through cupboards I pick out bowls and vases that I haven’t used in a while, or I shop for a few new accessories to go with my fall palette.
Some of my favorite colors for this fall are steel blue, graphite black and grey, cowhide or a faded pumpkin and a rustic green. Try to pair those with a soft blue and a zinger green-yellow here and there and you have a fabulous palette for fall into winter.
A new throw, a few pillows, a bowl with dried fruits and nuts – all help tie the color scheme together – it is a relaxing palette that carries a few memories over from the summer before the festivities of holidays’ glimmer and gold.
I find inspiration from Etsy both for colors and new pieces to bring into the mix.
